HURT
ON THE JOB - WHAT SHOULD I DO?
We all want to go home from work
injury free but sometimes that is not possible. Here is some information
that may help should you be injured on the job.
1) Depending on the injury, get first aid.
2) Notify your foreman or immediate supervisor as soon as
possible after first aid has been administered.
Claims Department will need a
Personal Injury form filled out.
There will more than likely be a 3
person investigation into the incident.
Carrier will pay for all medical
bills, no co-pay. Prescriptions will have a co-pay.
There is no longer a Wage
Continuation Program.
The Carrier now has a program called
Voluntary Advanced Program.
You will need to file for Aetna
Supplemental Sickness Benefit Plan which is on the Local 547 web page, www.ibew547.org. Supplemental Sickness Benefit Plan Booklet. You will also need to file for Railroad Unemployment
with the Railroad Retirement Board www.rrb.gov.
Even with Aetna Supplemental Sickness Benefit Plan and Railroad Unemployment,
this will not cover the wages you were making while you were full time on the
job. It would be less than 50 percent. Should you be off the job
injured for an extended amount of time, you can contact a BNSF Claims agent and
ask for funds to supplement you until the Claims department settles with
you. Any money received this way will be deducted from the settlement.
All claims are settled by the BNSF Claims Department at about 3 years.
Should you not agree with their settlement, you would want to get in touch with
a FELA
(Federal Employers Liability Act) law office.
